Region information

Macquarie UniversityStudying at Macquarie University gives you the opportunity to experience life in Sydney: named the “World’s Best City” eight times by Travel + Leisure magazine.

In addition to enjoying all the excitement a large, cosmopolitan city has to offer, Sydney offers the ideal environment in which to study. The city is scenic, with a mild, temperate climate. Traffic is light at most times, and the public transport system is good.

Also known as the Harbour City, Sydney is home to Australia’s best shopping, restaurants, entertainment and sporting venues. If you prefer the great outdoors, the city has more than 70 beaches along its eastern coastline, the scenic Blue Mountains to the west, and national parks to the north and south. It is also a short drive away from the vineyards of the Hunter Valley and the adrenaline-charged slopes of the Snowy Mountains.

University

As a Macquarie University student you will join a diverse and welcoming community of 32,000 students, with 8,800 international students from 114 countries.

Ranked among Australia’s nine top universities and within the top 40 in the Asia-Pacific region (Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Rankings of World Universities, 2009), Macquarie University is recognised for its innovative curriculum, high-quality teaching and research, and unique campus environment. Macquarie University ensures that our students develop qualities, skills and knowledge that are essential to succeed in a challenging, changing world.

Services offered

Macquarie UniversityThe modern, well-equipped campus is set on 126 hectares of peaceful parkland in one of Australia’s premier high-technology corridors. The campus features eateries and recreational facilities, in addition to extensive library and computer facilities, a state-of-the-art Sport and Aquatic Centre, an acclaimed sculpture park, several museums, two hotels and a golf driving range. The Macquarie Centre, a major shopping complex, is also on the doorstep of the campus. In 2009, we became the first university in Australia to have its own train station on campus.

Macquarie has a dedicated International Student Services team, who can help with almost any enquiry — health cover, fees, social activities, study skills workshops, and personal welfare. International Student Services provide a comprehensive orientation program for all international students at the beginning of each semester, and organise social events throughout the year.

We have a dedicated accommodation service which can give you information on your accommodation options on- and off-campus. We also offer an Airport Reception service from Sydney International Airport to pre-arranged accommodation.

Macquarie offers a number of extra-curricula programs such as volunteering and our Global Leadership Program that provide you with an advantage in today’s competitive job market.

The University has a Career Development Centre which is able to assist students in developing their careers. Regular workshops provide career education and generic skills development and employment opportunities including resume writing and interviewing skills. The Career Development Centre also co-ordinates part-time and casual work for students, and arranges for employers to meet with and recruit students.
