Cara&Co, Moscow

Terrifyingly, you have to walk past men with guns to get in here — an old military base next door serves as a vivid reminder of the country"s not-so-distant upheaval. Still, Cara&Co makes a fair attempt at encapsulating Moscow"s dazzling extremes: extortionately priced couture pieces are juxtaposed with an eccentric, creaky, wrought-iron-walled store that"s reminiscent of Dr Evil"s lair. It sells a mix of Russian and Western designs, antiques, Victorian handbags and cups of potent espresso.
