DataDot Technology is a Sydney-based technology company that designs, manufactures and sells a world-leading solution for marking assets and parts for identification and security purposes. With support from Austrade, DataDot has made significant progress in the fast-growing Russian market.

Its highlight so far is a large-scale deal with Russia's biggest insurance company, Ingosstrakh, under which DataDotdna will be sprayed onto vehicles as a mandatory requirement for car insurance. The DataDot system applies thousands of microscopic polymer dots, each laser-etched with unique identification information, to any type of asset or product. DataDotdna is easy to detect using UV light, easy to read using a simple magnifier but virtually impossible to remove, hence it provides a powerful deterrent to theft and an invaluable aid to police in identifying stolen property.

Announced during Australia Week in Moscow, the largest Australian trade promotion ever held in Russia, the deal followed extensive testing by Ingosstrakh. The sale provided further international endorsement for DataDot's world-class asset-marking technology. Ingosstrakh said the compulsory use of the DataDot system would enable the company to reduce the cost of the theft component of insurance premiums by up to 90%. Russian Federal Government authorities have endorsed DataDotdna technology as an effective way to reduce property crime in Russia.

DataDot Technology Chief Executive Officer Ian Allen said the initiative taken by Ingosstrakh and the continued support of Russian Government authorities were critical building blocks for further expansion into the Russian market.
